MEET THE EXEC

THE CONSTITution

Warwick Welsh Society is governed by the Society Constitution,

YOUR Exec for 2024/25

LLOYD

President

Hometown: Treharris

Why did I join Welsh Society?

A feeling of home away from home.
A chance to be surrounded by the language.
To meet people that I could immediately relate to.

What am I known for?

From start to present:
Preeing heavily for the first Circle because I somehow didn’t clock it was a drinking event.
Getting lost traveling from the ball venue to the bus (a 50m walk), then wandering through country lanes to try find Kelseys, which would have been a two-hour walk.
Dressing up as a lady whenever I get the chance.
Running the greatest circles Welsh Soc have seen.
The worm.
Co-founder of Warwick Welsh sports teams.
Bottling the summer charity rugby final win.

My Role

This year, as President, I will be maintaining order in the exec team and overseeing the running of the society. As well, with the other TC Presidents, I will be organising ball.

Tirion

Vice President

Hometown:

Cardiff

Why did I join Welsh Society?

I joined the society to try and connect with other welshy’s away from home. It filled a little gap that life as a Warwick student was missing. Ever since my first circle in kelsey’s I have been hooked to the community we have here. I thoroughly enjoy every event that the society has, including girls movie nights, welshsoc netball events and when we watch the rugby together.

What am I known for?

I’m sure you will come to realise very early on that I am known for my love of live lounge (liveys) and will ramble on about how much I love Cardiff.

My Role

My role as you’re Vice-President will be to plan the annual tour to Cardiff this year. I will be responsible for making sure that all of you that do decide to come on tour with us have a lush experience, and end up wanting to come every year you are with Welsh Society. And when I’m not doing that, I will work alongside our amazing president Lloyd to help him in any way possible with all of his responsibilities.
I can’t wait for all of you to have an amazing experience on tour with us this year. And can’t wait to meet any new freshers hoping to join Welsh Society.

eli

Social Secretary

Hometown:

I’m from Llantrisant/Pontypridd (depends on who you ask) but since leaving school I have lived in Porthcawl.

Why did I join Welsh Society?

I joined Welsh society in the end of my first term in my first year as I was slightly nervous to join straight away but after a few weeks and seeing the social media posts I knew I had to. I am so glad I made the decision to join the society as I have made lifelong friends and memories (in fact I am living in a house with 4 Welsh girls this year). I am so proud of our language and culture and wanted to find likeminded people. I love the whole range of activities and events we do; I get to learn more Welsh, watch the rugby, and have drinks with my favourite people.

What am I known for?

I am known for my bright and sudden hair colour changes as well as (mostly) try harding in themed costumes.

My Role

Hello, I’m Eli one of the social secretaries for this year. I am a third-year student studying management with accounting. As social sec, my job is to get everyone involved and enjoy themselves at the events myself and Ed host. We want everyone to feel comfortable and have the best time with the society, so plan lots of events so there is something for everyone.

ella

Welfare Officer

Hometown: Penarth (a little coastal town just outside Cardiff – I’d definitely recommend a visit to the pier for an ice cream if you’re ever nearby!)

Why did I join Welsh Society?

Mainly for a little home away from home! It was so nice to meet people who instantly felt familiar, and who I could really relate to. It was so comforting to have a little piece of home in such a new environment. I found everyone in the society so welcoming and I was also lucky enough to make really good friends straight away!

What am I known for?

I was given the ‘mam of the group’ award at Triple Crown Ball last year, so I guess I’ve created a reputation! Maybe its because I always like to take care of our Welsh Soc mascot, Dewi! <3

My Role

Hi, I’m Ella! I’m in my third year at Warwick studying English Literature and I’m so excited to be your Welfare Officer for this year! As Welfare Officer, I’m here if you have absolutely any questions or concerns. I’ll be hosting plenty of café drop-ins throughout the year so you can pop by for a relaxed coffee and chat, or if there’s something more specific you’d like to talk about. I’ll always be there to listen, offer support and give advice if I can. And if I can’t help directly, I’ll point you towards someone who can! I’m also available through WhatsApp or Instagram if you ever want to get in touch, even just for a chat; no problem is too small and there are no stupid questions! As well as this, I’ll be holding wellbeing socials throughout the year, including games nights, group walks, and movie nights! Plus, when the dreaded exam-season gets closer, I’ll hold study sessions to guarantee a relaxed, quiet and friendly place to revise and get any worries of your chest. All in all, my job is to make sure that everyone feels safe, comfortable and has the best experience possible!

Injuring myself in touch rugby and winning the tour treasure hunt

My Role

As sports officer, I aim to ensure that everyone in the Welsh Society has the chance to get involved in sports, regardless of skill level or experience. I manage our societies participation in various sports events, from weekly intramural leagues to one off charity events. My role is to ensure that sports are fun and something for all to enjoy and get involved in.

ben

Treasurer

Hometown: Bath (but Cardiff at heart)

Why did I join Welsh Society?

I joined Welsh Society as it’s clearly the best of the Triple Crown. Being part of Welsh Society has been really fun and I’ve made loads of friends through it.

What am I known for?

The biggest Coldplay & Alun Wyn Jones fan on campus.

My Role

As Treasurer, I’m responsible for the society’s finances. Most of my work is behind-the-scenes making sure the society has a healthy budget for events such as Tour and Ball.

tiana

Secretary

Hometown: Pembroke

Why did I join Welsh Society?

I joined Welsh Society hoping to find a sense of community at university and it quickly became a home away from home. The society offers a welcoming space where everyone is friendly and supportive. The variety of events, including Welsh lessons and cultural celebrations like St. David’s Day, makes it a perfect way to stay connected while being away from Wales.

What am I known for?

Saying “I’m not drinking”, then getting tequila shots after circle.

My Role

As the secretary, I handle the newsletter and take minutes in meetings. My job is to ensure we meet deadlines and that everyone is aware of their individual responsibilities following each meeting.
